hibernate problem

Posted: 03-14-2006, 03:35 PM
on windows xp sp2 when a Microsoft USB mouse is connected to the machine,
the machine can not hibernate.
if the USB mouse is dissconected from the machine or connected to it using
PS2 it can do hibernaion.
is there any fix for this problem?
I encountered it on more than one machine.
on other machine (xp sp2 also) if a USB mouse is connected to it, it can not
perform hibernate at all. (the hibernate probess hanges before power off the
machine. on the first case the power off succeeds while resume fails)

both cases - if the USB mouse is not connected, the hibernate completes
fine.

TIA.

Yep, go to the device manager and turn off power saving for the device.
That will stop it going into selective suspend.

BTW, this is a bug in XP (USB sub system not returning
IOCTL_INTERNAL_USB_SUBMIT_IDLE_NOTIFICATION Irp) that is fixed in Vista.
