Default Hotfixes always change Unattened switches

IS IT REALLY SO HARD for Microsoft to keep
the "#@$(&#@$@#^%#@^%$&@#&" unattended switches straight
on the hot fixes?

They change the damn things all the time.

Does anybody know how to install the MDAC security fix
Q823718 from the command line without having to click on
the Yes/No button after it installs and asks if you want
to reboot your computer?

I had to manually extract the files from
Q823718_MDAC_SecurityPatch.exe into a folder (Or you will
see a stupid screen telling you DO you want to install
this fix) and then run the file dathotfix.exe to install
the actual fix as follows:
dahotfix.exe /Q /R:N
To my surprise, /R:N which is used for "Do not reboot
after install" does not work any longer and you get a
prompt at the end that says "Do you want to restart"

Thanks for your help,

Diego

I do not get prompted for a reboot on a W2K Professional machine by
running dahotfix.exe /Q, but when I run it on my XP machine sure
enough it asks for a reboot. I even tried dahotfix.exe -q-z.
Microsoft says in the Q article that if any files are locked, the
installer will prompt you to restart your computer. There must be some
locked odbc or sql dll files on XP machines. I will post a fix if can
figure out a way around it. Good Luck.

Try dahotfix.exe -q-noreboot. I did not get prompted for a reboot
after running that command. You might do some more testing on a clean
machine that you have not installed the patch on to see if the odbc
sql files are replaced after a reboot. See this KB article to verify
that the files were installed
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;823718. I
have not been able to test that part yet because I have installed the
patch on my test XP machine mutiple times trying to crack the switch.
I hope this helps.
