how can I force an inf file on windows

Hi,

I am trying to change some properties in an inf file.
I don't know how to test it, because I am not sure that the inf fil
which I am changing is the one used to install the device.

Is there a way to force windows to use my inf file?
How can I know which inf file was used during installation?

I am trying to change ptpusb.inf.
