How can I get back my missing tray icons?

Posted: 12-30-2005, 09:12 AM
Hi All,

Firstly I apologise for not being around for quite some time on this forum
for answering questions, things have come up.

Second, my question! I have a little (BIG) problem here - next to none of
my tray icons appear in the tray when I first login. The problem is fixed by
logging off and then back on. Any ideas?

Thanks heaps

Damo

Possibly the following happends here: when you first login, you explorer
crashes, and restarts (and you would notice this by the fact that taskbar
disappears and shortly after reappears). WHen it restarts, no icons are
loaded in the systray.
If that's the case, find a tool to scan you computer for adware / malware
which could cause explorer.exe to crash

Thankyou Yuriy. However, I don't lose ALL my icons, and explorer does not
crash visibly on startup (or in the task manager).

I have however found a (temporary) fix, from browsing forums around the
place:

Disable the SSDP Discovery Service in services.msc.

As I don't have any UPnP devices on my network situation, this fix works
well for me. However I know it is unusual so I am all ears for a fix.
