| Saturday Eve How do I completely disable UAC? So, it doesnot stop programs from working/installing,......? Esample: I have backup scripts request confirmation. These are supposed to run when all us are to be sleeping. Most of my clients' computers are not shared, are behind firewalls, do not want to use passwords,.... I need to be able to stop this craziness. How? J | Guest

| Why not just use the built in backup wizard? Sometimes the craziness is us not wanting to learn a new way of doing things. When you disable UAC "completely" you also disable the IE in protected mode. That to me is more crazy. J wrote: Quote:

What I do like about vista is, after some 13 years we finally are relieved of all folder having to begin with "MY." Very stupid to file everything under "M" don't ya know. The new users folder is better. But programs are still allowed to bury data files, making backups difficult. And third party programmers are still allowed to add files to the windows folder, and so on. Quote:
on wk3 server, ... The need at this point is to allow the users to run them whenever then need: backups before laptops are taken away, before running the end-of-month processes, before new installations,...without having to be bothered to give permission to the zip program. J | Guest

These scripts create folders on a backup computer, named by user, source of files and date and time use zip to compress files copy the compressed files to the named folder generate a report of errors, if any After all the files have been copied to the backup compter the tape unit copies the main folder to tape. scripts. We have been using win 98 and 2k and xp, no problems. And now vista, the most secure of all without UAC, is the most annoying because of UAC. I cannot help them if I also have to protect them from themselves in any other way that to instruct them what to do, and to some extent, what not to do. And the UAC, which appears to be mostly to stop them from doing that which they already do not do, interferes with me helping them. It only adds costs for us, no benefits. This must be because we are unaware of such benefits. But we have asked many questions. Read many articles. And played with vista for many months. And we have yet to find a reason for having to click OK on 4 dialogs to add a new folder and name it correctly. What are we missing? J | Guest
