How do I delete many fonts all at once instead of 1 at a time?

Posted: 04-27-2007, 08:04 AM
I did a very foolish thing, I admit it. I purchased and downloaded 6000 fonts
from one of those font sites, and then proceeeded to download each and every
one of them. Now my computer is a little slower than before. So I went into
fonts to delete but it will only let me delete one at a time. Isn't there a
way to delete many fonts all at once?

Hold down the Control key on your keyboard and then select the fonts you
want to delete. They will stay selected, and choosing Delete will remove
all the fonts selected.

I tried that, but that doesn't work. I get messages for each font, asking me
if I'm sure I want to delete it.

I didn't know that, since I've actually never tried a multiple delete in the
Fonts folder. I'm thinking the inability to delete more than one at a time
must have something to do with the fact that a file is permanently deleted,
rather than going to the recycle bin, unlike files in regular folder, in
addition to the fact that each font must be unregistered. But I really don't
know, and can't think of a work-around for your dilemma.

Dean,

Now I understand why I kept getting that message about deleting each font.
Because it's permanently deleted and doesn't go to the recycle bin. I noticed
that last night, but didn't make the connection. Thanks, and PS: I eventually
got through deleting all the extra fonts, I used the sort feature to delete
all the TTF fonts. Thank you,

Maria

This is almost the same problem I'm having, except that in my case, I want to
KEEP the fonts that I delete - in a folder for uninstalled fonts, so that I
can install and uninstall them as needed when I want them for something. Is
there any way to find and/or recover these kinds of "Permanently" deleted
files? Or else is there a way to redirect deleted font files from the fonts
folder to the recycle bin instead, so I can them cut & paste them back into
their storage folder? (That's what I used to be able to do in Win 98SE...).
I've tried a couple of the font manager softwares available as freeware out
there, but Vista will only let them install, not uninstall.
