I don't know if this is the problem, but often security software from
different vendors will not play nicely together. Have you tried disabling
Norton before installing PC-cillin?

The software you're using may not be designed for Vista. Check with the
people who created that software. Better yet, you'd be wise not to install
any utilities or security programs at all in Vista. As stuff that works
close to the metal like that is best used only on the OS for which it was
written.

If worse comes to worse and you don't care about the consequences, you could
always try booting to Safe Mode and logging into the Adminstrator account.
But the smart thing to do, when beta testing a OS, is to not install
anything like that.

Try right clicking on the setup program and choose Run as adminstrator.

I have tried to install the beta trend micro pc cillin but it won't update.
There is something wrong here as I have vista working very well on my laptop
with norton security centre. It is even telling me that I cannot install
windows defender but I have it on my laptop

If you have Norton Security Center on your computer why are you trying to
install another anti-virus program?

sometimes, i might be wrong, check windows is not asking you for permission
to install , (forgot the name), but it will appear below your browser.

i mention this cause, when trying to access windows update, it says i was
not the administrator, when i am.

it might be different situation, but hope i was able to help

T5

What norton products do you have installed? Are you running Norton Internet
Security, if so what version? I thought Norton wasn't compatible with
Vista.

Thanks,

Jerry

Not all programs designed for XP work in Vista because Vista is a completely
new and OS. Most simple apps still work. But anything that works closer to
the metal, including utilities, optimizers, and security programs, are best
kept away. More likely to do more harm than good.

Vista has everything covered except virus protection. So if you just stay
away from suspicious downloads and e-mail attachments while in Vista, you'll
be fine.
