How do I make the local printer the default printer

Posted: 09-02-2003, 03:03 PM
We have connected a local PC via VPN to a remote network.
We use RDC locally (Win XP) to connect to the remote
Server (Win 2000 Server). We can print to the local
printer, but have to select the local printer each time.
The result is many times people fail to select a printer
and many pages are printed on the remote printer. Is
there any way to make the local printer the default
printer for the local PC to prevent this, other than
making this printer the default on the server? (As that
would only result in many pages being printed here that
were intended for the remote printer).

Thanks!

Bill,

Thanks for the reply, it helped me figure this out. I
guess I did not fully understand how the printer defaults
work in RDC/Terminal Server. It appears that I can
choose a default printer for my RDC session, and that
does not affect the default printer selected at the
remote Server.

Thanks again, Dennis

Glad it helped--the printer behavior is indeed strange and wonderful!
