Default How do I Removewindows vista and reinstall windows XP

When I installed Windows Vista I did not upgrade my windows XP to Visa. I
loaded a fresh version of Vista on my Dell E510 Pent 4. When I did this did
I remove XP and it is lost forever? If not, how do I find XP on my system
and uninstall Vista?

Thanks for any assistance.

It is next to impossible to bring XP back after you have installed Vista to
the same partition.

However, someone has come up with a way that sometimes works ... but this
procedure is a nasty hack and doesn't work all the time. And it's very
difficult.

If you want to try, here's a link:

Google for DSRfix. Run it from a floppy and it will restore the ability to
press CTRL+F11 and restore to the Dell factory install.

Default RE: How do I Removewindows vista and reinstall windows XP

I had a similar problem, this is how I solved it:
I had installed Vista64 onto a disk with 4 logical drives -
C = XP Pro (Pri partition), D=(No OS, ext part), E=Vista64 ext part, and
F=(No OS, ext part)

When I found out that XP would not re-format the vista drive E, I moved
everything from F to another computer (over net), then I deleted the E and F
logical drives, -- that procedure allowed XP Pro to reformat both E and F
(back to normal).

You can use the XP Pro Install CD to 'repair the boot process' - if needed
(I didn't yet).

Hope that Helps...

Let me ask a question...
Why in God's Name did you even install Vista when you didn't know how to
reinstall XP?

Microsoft prominently advises people NOT to install Vista on their working
computers without backing up their data and programs. Working with betas
ALWAYS leaves the possibility of losing your programs and data. That's the
nature of betas. If you didn't know this, you NEVER should have installed
Vista.

That said, just put your XP install disk in the drive, and reboot your
computer. Strike a key when the Installer asks you to, then go through the
installation process.

General principles for installing XP:
1) BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST!!!
2) Insert Installer disk. Reboot with Installer disk in drive. Press
<ENTER> when Installer tells you to press a key to boot from CD (or dvd).
3) Delete all Os partitions you don't want.
3a) PARTITION HD with at least ONE 10GB+ PRIMARY partition, preferrably
NTFS.
4) FORMAT the partition you just created.
5) Start the installation.
6) Finish the installation.
7) Install all necessary drivers for your devices, including: Motherboard,
Video, Sound, network devices, mice, keyboard, printers, etc.
8) Install all your programs.
9) Install your backed up data.
10) Pray that all is well.

Hope this helps.

This is really about not understanding the meaning or concept of a "clean
install". Some people just go for that because it seems, well, not messy or
dirty. Still others don't realize that's it's better to know than to guess.
Or even if they do know it's better to know they don't know how to find out
so they can know and therefore they guess. (I do believe that last sentence
is a legitimate sentence).

This contributes nothing to this post but I couldn't resist playing around
with the words.
