how to view temporary internet files

Posted: 08-02-2007, 03:57 PM
With XP and IE6, I could look at the various files -- html, gif, etc --
downloaded from websites I had visited by using the "View Files" button in
Internet Options. All files downloaded from remote sites showed up in the
Windows Explorer display.

Now, with Vista and IE7, the "View Files" button only displays local files.

How can I view temporary files downloaded from the internet?

Thanks
GM

Those are the temporary internet files from your (user) sessions.

You didn't answer my question.

If you're only going to post nonsense, why bother?

Gee...you're not going to get much additional help with that kind of
attitude. Lighten up...he was trying to help you.

At the risk of your calling *me* names, I must say that PaulB was
correct and he *did* answer your question. What you are looking at from
"View files" *are* the various files (html, gif, etc.) downloaded from
the web sites you have visited. The folder is called "Local" because
Vista has changed the names of some of the system folders where files
such as these are located.

So...hope my "nonsense" helped a little.

I did try to answer your question. In Vista, the "View Files" button that you
mentioned, located in IE7/tools/Internet options/Browsing history/settings
does show you the temporary internet files of web sites that you have
visited. The local directory, that it is in, is just part of the Vista file
structure. I hope that this is not too much nonsense to you.

I have a similar problem. For example, I was looking at a flash file in
the internet...however, I can't find it in the new Vista Home premium OS.....
I did what you said (Internet options......general tab...setting for browsing
history and view files/ view objects...)
And nothing...I can't find the flash file. In XP I go to the Internet
explorer temporary file and there it is....

Is there maybe a setting that "hides" this files? I even try a search
including system and hidden files....and nothing.

Any ideas???

Thanks in advance!!!

There is supposed to be a subdirectory named "Low" in Temporary Internet
Files
C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Window s\Temporary Internet
Files\Low\

Apparently, this is where files downloaded from the Internet are supposed to
be displayed. (The Cookies folder also has a subdirectory named "Low",
which contains all the cookies.)

Oddly enough, though, the "Low" directory does not appear in Windows
Explorer on my machine. I have tried viewing it with hidden files
displayed, protected operating system files displayed, and protected mode
off, but this directory never shows up.

If I find anything out about why this directory has become invisible, I will
let you know.
