how XP can identify device when plugged to a USB hub

Posted: 10-07-2003, 11:42 PM
I only have 2 USB v2 ports in my toshiba satellite
laptop. I bought a usb hub with 4 ports. When i plug the
hub, it is identified. However when i plug in my printer
and floppy drive. It is not identified. when i plug
either one on the other USB port(without the hub), the
device is identified.

How can I make XP identify the devices while plugged in
the USB hub that i bought?

thanks in advance

Some devices use too much power to be reliably supplied by hub. A printer
and a hard or floppy drive ( also cdroms, cdrw, dvdrw) might need to be
connected directly. Although you can try to locate a better hub that may be
able to support such devices. It may be trial and error though.

Try a powered hub if yours is unpowered.

Also, if your hub included software on a CD or Floppy you need to install it
also by following the manufacuter's directions.
