Default HP Deskjet 960c series printer problem installing divers and program CD

I uninstalled my printer and now trying to re-install but
with no success. I've deleted all files from the last
installation including the Hpf*.*,*Hpz files. I also
uninstalled the Windows generic drivers. The proper
drivers are downloaded from the HP Website. I can copy
these files to my Hard Drive but when I try to install
the drivers, I get an error message titled "16 Bit
Windows Subsystem" and the text of the message is
C:\Windows\System32\config.nt. The system file is not
suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows
applications. Choose 'CLOSE' to terminate the
application. I get this same message when I try to
install the Program CD. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mort. Thanks for the reply. Thats what I'm using the
generic drivers but you can't calibrate and can't check
the ink levels.

Have a look on this page of HP site (you may have seen it, but it gives
option for HP to check itself what you want).

Thanks Patrick. I just now tried your suggestion. The
driver downloads to my HD but as soon as starts to
install, that nasty window about the 16 bit Windows
Subsystem pops up with the same text. I'm at a loos on
this problem.
