HP g55xi all-in-one plus Win XP - Can't scan?

Posted: 05-23-2005, 04:27 PM

Has anyone been able to use the scanner in their g55xi HP
All-in-One with Windows XP?

Did you use third-party software, and if so will you please
tell me what software you used?

I've been told by one HP Support person that the g55xi is
incompatible with Windows XP for scanning. Does anyone
disagree with that?

I've seen Google hits that seem to suggest that there are
third-party device drivers that will let a g55xi scan with
XP, but I'm not sure they're saying that. It would be a big
help to me if someone could tell me of successful scanning
with a particular driver.

Any help anyone cares to give me will be greatly
appreciated.

The drivers for Windows 2K work just fine.

Thank you. I'm not certain what you mean, but I think you
mean that the drivers you've used with Windows 2K work okay
with Windows XP, including scanning.

I can print a picture from a file on the computer, but I
can't scan. Are you sure you can scan?

I have Version 3.1 of the HP g55xi software. HP says it
works with Windows 9x, 2000, XP, ME, and NT4. Also MAC OS
9.x and 10.x. That's the version I have on CD, and the one
I tried to re-install.

The HP Web site says the current driver for those operating
systems is

Release Date: 2003-01-23 Version: 3.10 (A.14.06.09)

I decided to download and try it even though I already have
Version 3.1 (Maybe the "A.14.06.09" is highly significant).
However, I still didn't get an icon, and when I push "Scan"
on the front panel, it still says it "can't connect to the
PC".

When I look at printers at the Control Panel, it tells me
the g55xi is installed.

If you can scan with a g55xi under Windows XP, I must be
doing something wrong. I'd really like to know what it is.

("Followup-To" set to microsoft.public.windowsxp.hardware
only.)
