HP Laserjet 1012

Folks, has anybody yet gotten HP LaserJet 1012 to work in Vista. I have an
MS Update for the 1012 Dot 4 or something, but if fails everytime I try to
install it. Ever few updates later I try this update and still it fails to
install. Thanks in advance, Phil Schlueter BTW, I have installed the XP
drivers and the HP LaserJet 1012 is listed in the available "printers" but
when I print to this printer it just sits there doing nothing.

I assume that you went into Printer Properties from the Windows Control
Panel and checked to make sure that the printer was on the correct port.
It should say DOT4 or something like that. If it doesn't, change the
port. If the DOT4 port (Generic IEEE 1284.4 printing support) doesn't
show up at all, the printer driver installation went bad initially.

I'm using the built-in driver for the HP 1015, but that's because there
originally was not a Vista x64 driver for the 1012 and I got tired of
waiting for HP to get off their collective duffs.

Bought a new computer on Monday, been trying to install HP 1012 eve
since. Came across this site and now know it was the wrong port. Thank
JB

The Hp1015 driver worked for me for 2 days - then it suddenly printe
"Unsupported Personality: PCL" right in the middle of printing

Since then I have tried deleting reinstalling etc - but Vista won'
allow it. Now when I send it to the location of the driver to install i
says "this driver does not support 64"

Any help would be appreciated - I have 3 toner cartridges unused an
don't want to scrap the work horse that is the Laserjet 1012

Okay cracked it!

After reading this on hp and reinstalling the 1015 driver after
installing HP laserjet 5000 series PCL

"Since the 1012 is host based, meaning the PC must process the data,
and there are no DOS drivers, that unit is not intended to be used for
DOS applications. You would need to move up to a product such as the
1300 to fit that bill.
The reason it will work for a limited time is that the printer
understands a small amount of PCL commands but once that buffer is full
it starts to generate those errors. Generally turning the unit off and
on resets that buffer for a varying amount of time but ultimately, it's
not the printer for DOS based apps."

My buffer got full! Turning the printer on and off cleared the buffer
and I am free to print again. Its a pain in the bootie - but at least I
don't have to trash a perfectly good printer and cartridges.
