HP LaserJet 2300 Printer

The Vista-included drivers entitled "HP LaserJet 2200 Series PS (MS)" work
very well for the HP LaserJet 2300.
Background
Vista build 5384 insists on recognizing my HP LaserJet 2300 as "HP LaserJet
9055 MFP PCL 5e" and installs the Vista-included 9055 MFP drivers for it.
Behavior
The LJ 2300 appears to work with the 9055 MFP drivers but with limited
functioning. (Collating does not work correctly. Kerning appears to work on
screen but is a mess on the printout.) Neither HP-supplied nor MSFT-supplied
drivers made for the XP OS work correclty on Vista, nor does the Windows
Update driver or any other printer-language drivers for the LJ 2300, no
matter what source (that I could discover).
Solution
Use the Vista-supplied drivers for the LJ 2200 PS (MS):
1. On your LJ 2300, reset it to the factory default settings on the menu
(LCD panel).
2. In Vista, uninstall any vestiges of previous 2300 drivers.
3. In Vista, delete the 9055 MFP printer from Control Panel | Printers.
4. In Vista, delete any LJ 2300 printers from Control Panel | Printers.
5. In Vista, install the Vista-supplied printer driver titled "HP LaserJet
2200 Series PS (MS)."
6. Restart Vista.
If Vista reinstalls the 9055 MFP "printer," ignore it. (Sometimes Vista
reinstalled the 9055; sometimes it didn't. It's gone now but I don't know
how I got it to stay gone.)
