Probably because the CD only contains Win9x drivers which will NOT install
on XP.

The correct procedure is to disconnect the printer before the upgrade and
clean install the printer after the upgrade is complete.

The way to go now is to COMPLETELY uninstall the printer, reboot the PC and
the reinstall it.....

Do NOT miss out on step 4. Doing so will reinstall the corrupted drivers.

On running the new driver package do NOT reconnect the printer to the PC
until the software TELLS you to do so.
