Please contact HP for support with their products.

Try using WMP9 to burn CD's

Steer away from WMP for burning CD's. Invest in decent software like Nero.
(Chris, I thought you knew better ;-) You'll need to delete your HP software
completely (including the registry, don't forget to back up first) and turn
off the XP Burning Service (if you have XP).

If you have the possiblility try plugging in a friend's or a spare burner to
see if the same thing happens. If you wait for HP .... well, good luck.
