HP4L printer prints garbarge with XP

Sure, the problem was in the upgrade..... you didn't disconnect the printer
before the upgrade and now the drivers are corrupted.

Have you tried installing the Windows XP driver, uninstall the existing driver
first.
Use the Add Printer wizard, deselect "Automatically detect and install my plug
and play printer", select LPT1. Scroll down at the left to HP and at the right
to HP Laserjet 4L.
Tony

If deleting printer, delete driver, reinstall printer does not fix the
issue, change the parallel BIOS system on the computer to PS2 or BI-DI. If
the computer is a Dell, this is the problem.
