Why do some hyperlinks (including those in this
newsgroup) require me to hold the ctrl key down when I
click on the link. If I just click without holding the
ctrl key down, I get a quick flash of the desired window--
but it doesn't actually open.

Do you have a pop-up killer enabled? This may be why.

Hi

Try this:

Start>Run - then type in "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" - without the quotes. Please note the space between the 2 and u. Then open Internet Explorer and go to Tools>Internet Options>Programs and click on the 'Reset Web Settings...' button.

When opening e-mail which contain hyperlinks, why can't I
click on the hyperlink and go to that site? I would like
to be able to do that. I am using outlook express.

I recently got a new computer with XP Professional. When
I try to click on a hyperlink, nothing happens. Is this
a simple fix? Any ideas?

Mike,

Are you using any pop-up killers. If so, try disabling them temporarily.

If not, try this fix:
http://mvps.org/sramesh2k/utils/IEFix.exe

Also, see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=281679
