I am locked out of computer password unknown

I intalled xp to a laptop. At first I got an error then I
installed xp by starting over and not repairing. The
install went in good. The system boots up and then asks
for an administrator password. I did not set one and I
cannot get into the system. What is going on?

Possibly Step 2, Leave the password blank.
