I deleted my sound programe

The sound system on my pc has been broken since september 05.

I dont know what to do, i keep getting error messages every time i open
Windows Media Player, i think it may be the sound device as a virus got into
the hardware and i had to delete it.

Where can i get a sound device, or do i need to re install Windows XP?
