i have 2 gigs of ram installed but applications wont launch once 1 gig is
used up.

The performance monitor never shows more then 1 gig of memroy used up, yet
applications wont launch when its near the 1 gig of used memory. how to free
up that other gig so that I can use 2 gigs of ram instead of 1. Its like i
have 2 gigs of ram and 1 gig is wasted. also, why dont applications launch?
do i need to configure some swap space or something to ensure applications
launch?

I have responded to all your other posts stating that you could have at
least crossposted - as it would be easier for you and easier for those later
to find the answer(s) to your post. As I do not even understand the
relevance to your posting here - I am going to respond here to see if even
*you* check the responses in this particular newsgroup...

First off - what operating system are you running?
- Windows XP Home, Professional, Media Center, Tablet PC or x64?

What service pack do you have installed?

What - if any - errors do you get when you 'reach the limit' in the event
log?

Can you purposely hit the limit while watching Task Manager? In
particular - what is your virtual memory doing when you hit said limit?

What exactly are you loading that gets you to said limit? I have many
machines with 1GB or less and they seldom ever hit the 1GB even. Office
2007, Adobe Photoshop, AutoCAD, etc... So I have to wonder what
applications it is that you are running...?

How is your Hard Disk Drive space on your System Drive?

To me - this does sound possibly like a virtual memory management issue...
What are your virtual memory settings? If you change it to "Let Windows
Manage" - does your situation change?
