I have loaded two versions of XP on my PC

I have XP- Prof. AND XP- Home on my desktop PC. I know nothing about PCs and
thought I was rewriting over the Home edition, which has been giving me some
problems since I installed SP2.
Instead, I grabbed the disks from my laptop- XP Professional- and like a
moron, didn't read any of the prompts when asked if I REALLY wanted to
install TWO operating systems concurrently on one computer.
When I power up the computer now, a black booot screen appears telling me I
have a certain no. if seconds to select which OS I want to use during this
session at the PC. I don't know how to switch between the two, and don't want
to know how. I just want my Home edition back. How do I get rid of the XP
Professional?

[[You reinstalled Windows XP on your computer thinking it would overwrite
the existing version of Windows XP and now there are two copies when you
boot up. Crap! What to do now? Not to worry, here's the solution.]]
