I made a mess (Help)

Posted: 11-05-2004, 06:18 AM
I created a problem and do not know how to get out of it. I had just
upgraded Media Player to vs10 on my XP machine. I also installed another
software program because Media Player could not play it. After doing this I
remove the last software I loaded, I then tried Player again and it would not
work. So I tried putting the machine back to a previous date with the MS
software. After doing this Player is now gone, but Now I cannot get it back.
I tried adding windows components for the Hard drive and from the CD, neither
will let me. I shows 0 bytes when I try to install or remove. I also tried
to download version 9 and 10. It did not work with 10, it just stops the
install. I have not tried vs 9 for XP yet. I am guessing I will get the
error that I already have a newer version and will stop too. How can I fix
this?

Try these: Delete all your .tmp files (Local Files and Folders/User
(whatever you are) and in IE - some install files might be there.
Do a restore file association, and a registry clean (RegClean).
