IE "previous webpage might require add on Windwos Media Player Shim--

Posted: 06-12-2006, 02:36 PM
Anyone know what this means?

Complete message is in bar at top:

The previous webpage might require the following add-on: "Windows Media
Player Shim' from Microsoft Corporation'. Click here to allow it to run...

Prior to this I had deleted all history, so I am not sure what is meant by
"previous". It seems to mean current or it is a fake message.

Thanks,
Clark

A "shim" is a sort of patch to allow stuff written for XP to run under
Vista. For an application you wish to install it will be OK. For a
website that needs a patch to run something in IE or WMP you have to
ask yourself do I trust this site?
