Re: If EWF is enabled, do I need to copy the hidden partition when cloning?

If EWF is enabled and does not detect an EWF partition, it will create one.
So, no, you shouldn't have to copy the EWF partitions to the target.
However, if you're running EWF on a compact flash device that is marked as
removable, EWF will fail to create the partition (because you can't
add/modify/remove partitions on removable media).

Hmmm.
I'm running with a RAM EWF enabled. There is no EWF
partition on the disk. There is lots of unpartitioned
space on the disk. EWF seems to work, except that the
ewfmgr -gauge command fails.

Most likely you won't be able to disable the EWF via "ewfmgr c: -disable".

Try doing a "ewfmgr c: -commitanddisable", reboot, then see if the EWF
partition got created and if the EWF is now disabled.

The issue with the gauge is a known issue. I think it's harmless.

Nope. Nothing I do using ewfmgr causes the EWF partition
to get created. But, EWF seems to work. The partition
was there after FBA. I enabled EWF. Shutdown. Deleted
the EWF partition. Started. EWF is enabled and seems to
be OK. All the enables, disables, commitanddisables, etc
with restarts in-between, seem to be OK. There is no EWF
partition.

Using 'rundll32 ewfdll.dll ConfigureEwf' from the
C:\Windows\fba directory creates the partition without
error. I've done this with EWF disabled and enabled.

So, things seem to work without the EWF partition. Why do
I need it?

Regards.

If you're running EWF with a RAM overlay, you don't need the partition. The
partition is only required during FBA setup.

Thanks,
Dan
