If it possible to use system restore...?

If it possible to use system restore to go back to Windows XP? I haven't
install vista yet and I do not have a system restore disk from my purchase of
Dell desktop computers. I am asking this so that I will not have to install
vista if it does not restore back to windows XP.

No, you cannot go back to XP that way. Vista cannot be uninstalled. The
only way to go back to XP would be to boot with an XP disc and do a clean
install. If you don't have XP install or restore discs, then do not use
Vista.

I would contact DELL and see if you can get a XP disc before trying VISTA.
They probally ask you the service tag and such which should be located still
on the machine.

Hope this helps

I want to commend you for asking this question BEFORE installing Vista.

We have heard from many people who have already upgraded their production or
main home computer to Vista, and who then come here and ask if they can
uninstall Vista and restore thier XP operating systems. It is hard not to
be exasperated with such people, but clearly, the first time they have ever
been to this site is when they post thier cry for help.

Not only can you not restore XP, but you have a very high risk of loosing
all your data when Vista crashes.

Browse the site and read the misadventures of other posters who upgraded
their production or main home computer to Vista, and lost their data.

Thank you for asking us before installing Vista.

No. System Restore only restores the currently installed OS to an earlier
date for that OS (these dates are call "restore points"). System Restore
for Vista would only have restore points saved for dates following
installation of Vista anyway.

The feature you are asking about is actually a "rollback". It is not
possible to rollback Vista to XP.

To try Vista you should use a second hard drive or better yet a second
machine.
