Indexing Options

Running: XPSP3; OE6; IE7

I'm trying to find the location of Indexing Options. I have become among
the few that developed a problem with Outlook Express always wanting to
compact messages when closing after I loaded SP3 even though I don't have any
mail messages to compact. In going through various posts the solution seems
to be removing Outlook from indexing. Access to the indexing Icon is suppose
to be Control Panel | Indexing Option. I can't find anything about indexing
on my control panel. Of course I don't know what the Icon looks like.
Another location is suppose to be right clicking on the magnifying glass in
the task tray. Again I don't have one either hidden or visible. Can anyone
direct me to the options location so I may fix the problem?

Tx.

With due respect, I think you are a little confused.

To begin with, you speak of Outlook Express in one sentence and Outlook
in another. These are unrelated applications.

Another thing: XP's built-in file indexing service has limited
configuration options. To see them, open the Help and Support Center and
search for Using Indexing Service.

[The Indexing Service can suck up a lot of system resources. And as
indexing goes, it's pretty feeble. For those reasons, many of us disable
the Indexing Service or uninstall Indexing altogether.]

Compacting in Outlook Express can occur even if you do not have any
visible messages. That's because it's not compacting messages per se,
it's compacting the message stores.

Compacting normally occurs every 100 times you close Outlook Express. If
compacting is not needed the utility will exit almost immediately.

Compacting data files in Outlook is a whole different affair. The way
that happens depends on where your data files are stored, e.g., on an
Exchange server or on the local computer.

Thanks. Not a real smart computer person. I did not finish Outlook to be
Outlook Express.
