Initializing new HD

Posted: 01-08-2004, 10:54 PM
I installed 2nd HD with wd Life Guard tools. Then booted and started
diskmanagement . XP instructions say to right click the new drive and select
initialize. But this option is not available. I have looked every where. No
screen offers it. Did they leave it out of my copy?

How am I to get this disk to work.

Bob

Rt-click My Computer/Manage/Disk Management - then rt-click the grey
box (with the drive details in) for disk 1. Should be there.

For the drive type is it already listed as being either basic or
dynamic?

If so then XP has already initialized the disk and this is why you
dont see the command.

It is listed as Basic. On closer inspection I see it is
listed as a net work drive in another computer. I saw
this earlier, unhooked connections, and deleted(IN
Network places) that mapping of D as a network drive
located on another computer. Then reinstalled HD. Now I
see it is back showing this new HD as a network drive.I
guess my problem is I can't get rid of this mis labeling.

I had three drives on network mapped. I am replacing
them. I don't like a local drive shown as network. No
tellin what problems might arrise. Any suggestions on
getting this notation out of the system. All three are
still listed in my computer but not in network places.
