Install Vista keeps asking for drivers?

Posted: 08-23-2006, 02:12 PM
Trying to install on my AMD X2 3800+ computer with nforce4 chipset. First I
get a message that Vista needs CD/DVD drivers, and when I skip that it keeps
asking for drivers, but does not say for what devices.
But this same Vista DVD installs fine on my HP laptop.
What am I missing

I just read that someone says it is my NEC DVD burner, But it is a new 3550A,
why would it be the problem when I booted from this drive with the Vista DVD?

The information you give is very sparse and
really doesn't give anyone any idea about your
system configuration to attempt to analyze what
the problem might be.

Also, how are you trying to install? Are you
booting from the DVD, or are you trying to
'upgrade' from XP?

Hi,
Sorry about that.
I am booting from my NEC 3550a DVD drive with the Vista DVD I burned from my
download. Clean install on a new hard drive(120gig)
My Computer is a AMD X2 3800+ cpu running on a Abit AN8 32X mb with 1gig of
PC3200 dual ch memory. The chipset is nforce4 platform. I also have 5 SATA
drives connected to the SATA ports. Video card is a Geforce 7600 PCiEx16
Do you need more info?
Thanks for your reply.

Here is a link about installing on nVidia with
RAID, which may be somewhat useful:
http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/vist...500dfd10ae7215

The other item of interest may be the DVD burner
you burned the DVD on. I burned mine on a NEC
3550A, but I had all kinds of problems trying to
install with a OptoRite DD1403(?) dual layer. I
swapped it with a NEC 2550A and everything
installed fine.

i.am.not,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I upgraded the firmware on my
NEC 3550A DVD burner from 1.05 to 1.06.
Once I did that I was able to install Vista without a hitch.
Now I can have some fun checking out Vista.
Thanks again for you help.

quadcells:

I have this burner, with non-RAID SATA drive, Asus A8N-E board, NVidia
nForce chipset and Sapphire 256MB Radeon X1300.

Both Vista x86 and x64 (July CTP, build 5472) worked right out of the
box. No drivers needed.
