| First, XP is NT based. Second, what kind of XP CD do you have? You can't do a upgrade with a OEM disk; it will do a clean install only. To do a upgrade you need a retail boxed XP Upgrade or Full version. If your XP came in a shrink wrap package, not in a box, it is OEM. -- Steve C. | My dad bought the XP upgrade and it freezes up on him at the Installing Windows screen with anywhere between 16-18 minutes remaining. He has an HP computer but I dont know what version of windows he had before. I took the disc out and turned the power of and on again so he could play his games but the xp screen came back on and said to insert disc . I did and it went down to 18 minutes and froze up again, Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!! | Guest

| Hi, Boot the WinXP CD, hit "r" at the prompt to enter the Recovery Console. Logon with the administrator password, then from the command prompt run "del C:\boot.ini", followed by "fixboot", and possibly "bootcfg /rebuild". -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Associate Expert - WindowsXP Expert Zone www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "SWM" <anonymous@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:21e501c47d86$2d6b6880$a301280a@phx.gbl...
