Installed XP Pro on C Drive, Now Can't Read D drive

Posted: 02-24-2009, 07:44 PM
Hello. I have two HDs in my computer. C has the OS and D has the data. The
PC was running Vista Home Premium and all was fine. I decided that I wanted
to use XP Pro instead of Vista so I inserted my XP Pro install CD into the
computer and followed the prompts to re-format the C drive and install XP.
All went well except that now the PC can't read the D drive. The BIOS and
Windows Disc Manager see the D drive as unallocated.

What happened? Why did changing the OS on the C drive affect the D drive?
What should I have done differently? Is there a way to get the D drive to be
read by the PC without losing the data on it?

Thanks.

Bruce

Bruce, FYI disconnecting your D drive before Installation of WinXP would
have been less problematic. Can you do anything in Device Manager when you
rt click on the D drive?
Such as assign a drive letter or make it active ?

Check the disk manager under administrator tools. Has something to do with
"Dynamic Discs", had the same issue years ago, forgot the details though.
All that comes to mind is "Windows Updates" "Dynamic Disc" and "Disc Manager"
