OK..I only asked because you called it a CD. Hoping for the obviou
solution.
I just went from XP to Vista64 without a hitch. As long as you're se
up to boot from your DVD drive, it should start.
32 or 64 shouldn't make a difference.

I'm going to have to hand this off to the local experts, sorry

You can not install Vista 64 on a 32 bit cpu system.
Are you sure that your system has a 64bit cpu? If yes what make/model cpu
is it?
Did you buy the OEM only version of Vista 64? If yes and you do not have a
64 bit CPU make the store take it back.
If you did not buy the OEM only version of Vista Home Premium what version
did you buy?

Since you have an AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200 then you do
have a 64 bit CPU.

The normal installation procedure would call for you to set your DVD as the
1st Boot device in the BIOS.
Insert the Vista DVD and restart the system....watch for the message "push
any key to start from DVD"
do so and the Vista installation screen should appear.
Be aware that Vista 64 needs to be clean installed.....it cannot upgrade a
32 bit installation...it can and will wipe it and then
install itself.
Be sure to find 64 bit drivers for all of the hardware on your system.
