Installing Intellitype/Point Software

Posted: 11-27-2006, 02:30 PM
Do i need to install the Intellitype/Intellipoint Vista update before or
after upgrading to Vista?

I am afraid to lose keybord/mouse functionality when upgrading to Vista
before updating the drivers to Vista.

No, you don't need to. I'm using the Desktop 6000 combo and Vista still
recognizes the keyboard and mouse as generic versions. You just won't have
functionality of the special keys until you install the software.

I too am using the MS Wireless combo, on x64. I ahven't installed any
additional software (two updates are available via WU but I've not
installed them).

Som hotkeys work - mute, web/home etc, but other don't - My Music, My
Pictures etc.

Beware though, your screensaver will not activate. The drivers prevent
the screensaver kicking in. Unplug the mouse/keyboard wireless gizmo
and the screensaver works! New software is due in December (from
microsoft.com/hardware site), so I hope it addresses this issue (the
WU updates do not, I tried them on a different PC).

You will regain the functionality when Vista installs the drivers so there's
no drama.
