| Hello My husband has Windows ME on his computer and it sucks because he gets some many freaking errors! So we tried formatting his computer a few times with XP, unfortunately we were unsuccessful. One of the reasons why was after the format we wanted it to boot from the XP CD but the computer couldn't recognize the CD-Rom. So then we upgraded from ME to XP still..more errors!! So now we went back to Windows ME. Could someone plz help me on how to install Windows XP? Once we've formatted the drive completely. Thanks ahead of time Stephanie | Guest

they sell motherboards with bios that are not fully ACPI compliant and will work ok with the OS preinstalled and forced to run as a standard bios so there is no IRQ sharing. I guess they get a big fat discount for blem boards or something. If you go and just load ME or XP again off the CD and it recognizes it as an ACPI bios, then it will load with that option and give you trouble. You may have to force install with standard PC bios option. Read this: http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;EN-US;299340 | Guest

However if you do not know how to set the boot-order in the BIOS then thiere is an alternative, said involves downloading a file from Microsoft that will create 6-boot-up-floppys. When these boot-floppys have been created, you will then boot from the first-floppy following instruction, at some point the XP-CD will be required. Below is an indirect link to the Microsoft page where you can get the program; Scroll down to XP section and choose which of four apply (Pro/Home, SP1-built-in or-not) http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm | Guest
