Yes ... no problem. You'll need a fax modem and, of course, you'll have to
connect it to a telephone jack.
Your fax device must support fax capabilities and not just data standards.
While some modems offer both capabilities, the two are not interchangeable.
Fax supports classes 1, 2, and 2.0. For more information on modem
compatibility with Fax, see the Windows Catalog (replaces the Windows
Hardware Compatibility List) at the Microsoft Web site. Select 'network and
modem' from the hardware list and select either external modem or modem card
.... you can then view your proposed modem's XP compatibility (or lack
thereof).
When you attach a fax device, such as a fax modem , Windows XP detects it at
startup. If the component is not detected at startup, the Add/Remove
Hardware wizard can search for and install it.
