Intellipoint Mouse Going Wild

I am using an Intellipoint Optical Mouse which suddently
developed a mind of its own. Every so often the mouse
starts moving around the screen, starts programs and
behaves as if a hacker took control of my PC.

I have disconnected the PC for the LAN and Internet, shut-
down, restart, carried out a complete virus scan but I
cannot get the proble to go away. I disconnected the
mouse and are now using a regular mouse with no problem.
I even replaced the optical mouse with a new one but the
proble still exists.

I was told by someone that I might need to reformat the
PC to get rid of this problem
Please help
