internet network connections

Posted: 09-16-2003, 07:26 AM
I installed some Windows updates (not sure which ones -- I also ran a
spyware killer app - Adware 6.0) and now my internet
connection does not work. It worked perfectly before. I have a Macintosh
and a Windows XP PC hooked up to a Linksys router attached to a cable modem.
The Mac still has an internet connection so there is a connection. I also
use AOL on PC and noticed that there is no AOL network connection anymore,
not that it matters. I tried using the wizards for Internet and Network
connections but couldn't get anything to work. What sort of tests should I
do to determine the problem? Any help is much appreciated, thanks,
Greg

Hi Greg,

1) Check the "Network Connections" Folder by opening the start menu
2) Go to "Run"
3) Type "ncpa.cpl" and hit enter

On the left hand side, you should see an icon named "Network Troubleshooter"
Click on it.
Click on "Drives and Network Adapters Troubleshooter"
Click on "My network adapter does not work".
Click next.

Follow the wizard.

If you're still having troubles see below for additional instructions..

Open up ncpa.cpl again, following the instructions at the top of this post.
Do you have a "Local Area Connection" icon in this folder? If so, does it
appear to be connected? disconnected? disabled?

If it's disabled, right click on it, and select "enable"
If it's connected, double click the icon. Go to the "Support" tab. When
here, look for "Address Type" it should say "Assigned by DHCP". If it does
not, click "Repair" if this doesnt work, then look at your cable, or look at
your config of your linksys router.

After doing this, if you're still having trouble, please reply to this post
with additional information about what the results of these steps were.

Thanks,
