Internet Printing problem
Posted: 12-08-2004, 12:12 PM
I am trying to connect to a network printer through Add printer wizard.
Steps i follow:
1. Print server set up is created with sharename "print" on XP pro
m/c with IIS installed.
2. On the client machine( Xp embedded image with all essential
components required for network and internet connection) i do as follows:
From Start-->Settings-->Printers and Faxes-->Add printer(link)-->opt for
connect to network printer-->give the correct URL of the format:
http://server/printers/print/.printer
3. I always get the message "Windows cannot connect to the printer....".
There is no connection loss or network failure.
After an exhausted search, i feel there are some settings which i am not
able to make out....
Another thing which i tried is as follows:
In the address bar of IE , i type the URL of the print server( web printer
connection)
Active server pages come up with the list of printers installed on it.
On connecting to the print server. the progress bar starts installing the
setup files after verification. But instead of asking permission to download
the file on the client ,the system Pops-up a dialog Box " Continue Anyway";
Now if i click on the continue button printer installation fails and the temp
folder for drivers gets deleted.
I really don't understand why is this happening.
Please let me know where i m failing to understand the concept and if any
aide can be provided.
Thanks
,Maria
