IP name resolving not working

Posted: 10-31-2003, 01:20 PM
Hello,

On my Windows XP the name resolving isn't working. I've
tested the network with the ping. Pinging an IP number is
working, but pinging the same address with its internet
name doesn't. I can ping the DNS, but for example
nslookup cannot connect to it. How could I solve this
problem?

Thanks,

-matyi-

what do you mean "its internet name"? what's the its internet name? also
posting the result of ipconfig /all here may help.

I can ping an IP number. For example:
ping 63.208.194.88
works very well. But its internet name
(www.microsoft.com) doesn't work:
ping www.microsoft.com
All packets are lost.
ipconfig seems to be good, I1ve check it with other
computer's on the LAN.
I could send you the results of ipconfig in Hungarian, if
it says you something :-)

nslookup says: cannot reach default dns server.
But I can ping it.

Maybe QHOSTS trojan?

Read MANUAL remove instructions in following page, just incase... All havent
got help from removal tool, so manual removal might be only option if you
really have been infected by this...

Try a different DNS server.
