ip settings won't save

When I put ip numbers and subnet mask numbers in local area connection
properties/internet protocol version 4, I click ok, then close and these
numbers are not saved. When I go back in, the numbers are missing, but
default gateway stays there and also dns numbers stay. How do I save these,
is there a configuration problem?

I've got this same exact problem, about 6 weeks after getting my new
laptop/desktop replacement with Vista Ultimate. It was fine last week, since
Monday its been frustrating as hell. Wireless works but the NIC loses its IP
settings as soon as I close the "Local Area Connection Properties" dialogbox.

What did you do to fix this?

HP is recommending a system restore. There's got to be a better way. It
takes me DAYS to get a machine setup for me to use it. My boss is ready to
kill me.
