Is RC1 out?

Posted: 08-04-2006, 12:49 PM
Over at wikipedia.org http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Vista it says that
build 5487 RC1 was release August 2nd. Would any msdn members, who have 5487,
let us know their opinion?

No, it doesn't say that RC1 is out. The article is provided by an
individual and subject to corrections and clarifications, as are all
Wikipedia articles. Please note the "+/-" after the date given. That means
"more or less." In other words, someone's estimate. Obviously it fell
short. If you follow the links it takes you to the Vista Team Blog which
only says, "And before anyone asks the question, yes, you can expect us to
deliver RC1 later this quarter "

The quarter ends on Sept. 30.

Wikipedia is a great concept, I use it all the time as a reference.
However, one must be careful because of the way wiki is setup
and the very nature of people to lie, embellish, exaggerate, or just
plain get things wrong.

It's said to be for people who registered on the CPP and MSDN members. No
idea about CTP members.

RC1 will be a Milestone build. Milestone builds get full distribution to
all the testing and evaluation populations. I suspect that RC1 may be made
available to an even wider audience than Beta 2 5384 was.

For Chad: Be sure to enter the RC1 drawing. First prize will be a free
copy of Vista gold. Second prize will be two.

And what would be the current media that is not subject to such foibles?

Wiki is a great learning tool. You have the web to check any facts. Many
of your US Senators and Representatives were caught embellishing facts in
their biographies and removing perjorative facts in their biographies.
Excellent point Bernie--media spin is alive and well.

Media stupidity is vibrant and thriving also. I watched Paula Zahn say
that there was serious consideration that the Biblical end of the world was
now here, and she was going to turn to the CNN Faith Advisor to "get the
facts" and check on this.

Perhaps the CNN Fiath Advisor climbed to the top of the CNN Building at the
tip of Central Park and was speaking to a higher power the way the
delusional Bush moron says he does?

One of the most frequent blocks on individual posting on Wikipeida, which is
a remarkably good resource (enhanced by organizational hyperlinks, for
general info (a cut above a lot of references of that type) are on the lying
staffs of United States Congressmen and Senators who have taken great
liberties embellishing their own biographies and trashing their opponents.

It's good for contexting the history of a particular computer area for
example. It's pretty good for biographies and accurate there (except when
the US Congress gets involved).

I wish this were around on something you could carry with you easily when I
was in school.
