Is Readyboost worthwhile?

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on Readyboost. Is it worthwhile,
and if so, under what circumstances would I benefit from it? I've got 1 GB
ram.

Thanks,
Walter

It works as intended - not as a replacement for adding memory but for
replacing the slower hard drive pagefile with faster solid-state pagefile
instead.

Walter,

checkout http://www.istartedsomething.com/200...adyboost-works
it has information you are looking for with screenshots of
performance.

One would have to give it a try for the sake of it.

On my laptop (5400rpm drive w/16MB cache, 1GB RAM) it makes a
substantial difference. On my desktop (7200rpm drive w/TCQ&NCQ, 16MB
cache, 2GB RAM) it isn't noticeable.

Little harm in trying it though, with larger USB memory sticks well
under $50.

It is if you have the USB stick already, or if you going to use it for other
reasons as well.

RAM is a lot faster, and if you are buying the USB stick for ReadyBoost
only, don't. Buy more RAM instead.

If you already have it, or are using it to transfer files also, yes it does
work. It works fairly well with 1 GB of RAM. If you go up to 2 GB of system
RAM, you won't notice much (if any) of an improvement for ReadyBoost.

ReadyBoost also supports "ReadyBoot" and, according to Microsoft, boosts boot
performance by 20%.
(Vista utilizes ReadyBoost, ReadyBoot and ReadyDrive)
