Is there an easy way of viewing and printing .fxr files please?

Posted: 07-21-2008, 10:38 PM
I have had a few computer crashes and over the years have lost the indices
of various Winfax directories. Whenever I have changed computers I have
always copied the backed up data directories. Occasionally I have managed
to back up to .fxa files and have restored those but I still have those
un-indexed data directories containing the fxs and fxr files (and probably
the contents of cover pages when I used them).

I cant imagine there can be any way of restoring the indices: Is there any
program which can read or produce thumbnails of the contents of those
directories or automatically print every page in them please?

I suspect I will have to print the pages and then scan them into some format
whereby I can zip them up and e-mail them en masse.

The files were created between about 1995 and 2004 and as far as I can
understand, I can only VERY LABORIOUSLY look at each page of each fax
individually. There are hundreds of pages (possibly thosands) and the steps
to look at them in WinFaxPro 10 are unbelievably slow

Since this has nothing to do with Microsoft or Windows XP Fax, I'm not sure
how much help you'll find here. Why would you not contact Symantec about
this?

Because they wouldnt answer the question AND they dont have any support AND
they make themselves in any event impossible to contact AND (with no support
for their products) they probably wouldnt know etc etc etc

Figures. Good luck to you. Sounds like a program you should have abandoned a
long time ago.

I did:: now I am trying to use Microsoft groups to see if I can read the
pages. Somewhere someone said that there are lots of free readers out there
for viewing these fax files in XP

I assume this is not the case?

The program is supposed to integrate with Outlook. Is this just a lie on the
part of Symantec?

WinFax Pro would integrate with Outlook, it just never worked.

Yes, Symantec are a VERY difficult company to deal with and couldnt care
less if everyone in America is using their fax program for the (very few)
faxes we still get or have to send.

But after a long struggle I have found a program which converts those
individual documents to something called .fxm files which are joined up
versions of the individual faxes. I wonder if one can view an .fxm
non-symantec product!!

there are programs that can convert your fax files to other formats such as
PDF or TIFF
here is a link to at least one program to do this
http://www.getfaxing.com/products.htm
once as a multipage TIFF image, I am sure you can use just about any imaging
program
to do what you want to do to organize the images.
