Istall Dual System problem

Hi my basic problem is I dont know enough .

I purchased a new Compac Presario SR502 with Windows Vista basic
preinstalled. This came complete with 512 Ram - which based on my previous
home PC , I thought would be a great system.

I have since added 512 Ram in the hope it would give me some improvement to
preformance - unsucessfully.

Have tried to install dual system and shrunk the c: drive to create a 17Gb
unnamed partition and inserted the full disk of windows XP home edition /sp2
that I own. This tells me it has a compatability with the current windows
operating system and will not install over vista.

Question at last:

How do I now install XP onto the unnamed partition that Vista has created by
shrinking
