iTunes & Windows Vista

Posted: 07-01-2007, 08:10 PM
I recently bought a new dell computer. After downloading the lastest version
of iTunes and loading my library it seems to shut down a lot. I tried
creating a new account of computer, but it does the same thing. Now when I
try to click it says that iTunes has unexpectedly quit. That is what it said
before, but I could at least open it. I have tried everything. I don't know
what the problem is, but I have to be able to open it.

powertumbler00,

I did a quick google review of subjects relating to iTunes and Vista. I
found that iTunes has had Vista compatibility issues all along. Apple is
releasing updates regularly to address issues, but some problems still remain
outstanding. For example, see the following website:

http://www.zolved.com/synapse/view_c..._Windows_Vista

I have no way of knowing whether your issue is the norm for what has been a
continuing problem for iTunes, or whether you have a unique issue. If your
problem is a typical situation, then eventually Apple will fix it with a new
version of iTunes. I simply don't know. All I know is what I have posted
here. Others may have more specific information.

After failing with 7.1 and 7.2, I am now using the most current
version (7.3) with my 30GB iPod and I am still experiencing the BSOD
when I try to sync videos (i.e. BSOD then reboot). My O/S is Vista
Business will all current updates. After reading the iPod/iTunes
message boards, I see at I am not the only one.

Thus, I need to use my wife's computer, which is still on XP Pro (and
I am NOT even contemplating changing this for the foreseeable future).

RANT ALERT --> Without going into great detail, my gut is telling me
that Vista is beginning to look like the Windows ME fiasco. I
remember when XP came out and I never had the same level of
frustration after 6 months as I do with Vista. Nice "candy" but
unfinished software. Heck, you practically need a computer science
degree to be able to get rid of some files/folders which were not
deleted properly (i.e. even as an "admin with full rights" (just below
"God" level), you need to go through a series of non-intuitive config
changes to be able to get rid of those files/folders). ADMIN W/FULL
RIGHTS? Hmm... sure. And don't talk to me about UAC!!!
How the heck does Microsoft expect a "common mortal" to be able to
manage all of this mess!

Same as you I also have a new Dell, after many phone calls to Dell they are
now admitting there is problems with Vista and advise I dont download itunes
or any soft ware for 6 months, it a shame they were not more honest when they
took my money. Ready to throw computer out the window before I lose my sanity

Same here. I didn't have any problems with the other versions of iTunes on
my Vist Home Premium system. I read a lot of posts about USB problems, iPod
problems, external device problems, etc. I've been fortunate that I haven't
experienced any of these problems.

I have 7.4.2.4 and Home Premium, but my HP Pavilion dv6000 won't play videos
from iTunes; the audio is fine. I have an NVIDIA graphics card, and have
been told that this was the problem, but no one (not HP, not NVIDIA, not
Microsoft) seems interested in fixing it. Am I alone in this? Does anyone
else suffer this? Is there a solution that my non-computer friendly brain
can grasp? Please help.....

What kind of video files? iTunes only plays .mov and .mp4 files, AFAIK.

I also have a Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX and running the Forceware 162.22WHQL
