itunes Freezes

I posted here few days ago for recommendations of good sites for music
downloads. Thanks to all who responded. I subsequently downloaded itunes and
purchased an album. It downloaded fine but I cannot burn it to a CD. Itunes
locks up as soon as I hit Burn. I've spent hours trying to figure out some
way to do it. I've imported and exported files until I'm blue. Finally, I
decided to just burn them on good old WMP. (I've used WMP, Musicmatch,
Audiogalaxay, Napster, WinMix in the past with no problems). I can't even
transfer them because Windows does not recognize the file type of m4p. I
looked that up and it's a protected AAC File. Any suggestions? I guess I'm
stuck with this album I've paid for and it's not even for me. I was doing it
as a gift. I wrote itunes support but haven't heard a word.
