iTunes questions

Posted: 12-24-2008, 12:44 AM
A friend asked me to reinstall Windows on her laptop. Using Vaio's F10
recovery option, the D: partition remained with all the iTunes music
files intact. C: partition is where a fresh installation of Windows
resides.

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes for Windows. I installed the
program on C: but I later went into Preferences to change the location
of the music directory, pointing it to the D: drive (specifically
D:\iTunes Music). But when iTunes shows files in the main window, it
instead uses the default files, found here:

C:\Documents and Settings\Sarah\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes
Music

What is the proper way to consolidate everything?

Also, any recommendations to make Windows run more lean, with regard
specifically to iTunes? I noticed the following startup
programs/processes:

iTunesHelper
Apple Mobile Device
Bonjour Service
iPod Service

I suppose I could just disable them all, but I'd like advice from
someone with experience with iTunes, preferably.

TIA.

Open up iTunes > Edit > Preferences > Advanced > change the iYunes Music
Folder Location to the one you want.

Download CodeStuffStarter. Fire it up. Disable the following in Startups :

* QuickTime Task
* iTunes Helper

In services, change the following to Manual :

* ipod Service

For Bonjour Service, you don't really need it, but its a bitch to get rid
of.. See here for instructions :

http://arai.wordpress.com/2008/02/11...nd-mdnsnspdll/

I used this to get itout of my system :

http://www.mininova.org/tor/1280717

You can always re-install it if you find that iTunes really needs it. I
haven't so far .....

Apple Mobile Device : leave it if you want to connect an iPod or such.

To disable other start ups, see here (at your risk, what works on one
machinie may not work on another !) :

Use CodeStarterStuff to disable, not Msconfig

Cheers,
Jerry

FWIW, I found the solution:

Add Folder to Library
