ITunes (Win) - audio distortion builds up slowly

Posted: 06-23-2004, 10:10 PM
I am running ITunes 4.6 (same thing happened with 4.5) on Win XP.
Most of my files are MP3s.

The problem is that after I have listened to a few (5 or so) songs in
ITunes, I start to hear these snicks or clicks in the background (they
sound a little bit like the sound you hear if you plug in or unplug
headphones while they are playing). It starts with just a couple, and
they steadily increase in frequency the more songs I listen to, until
there are a couple a second. It doesn't change if I stop the player
or skip tracks. But if I shut down ITunes and restart it, everything
sounds fine (for a while).

1) Anybody have this problem?
2) Anybody know anywhere else I can post this question?
3) Anybody know how to fix it?

Thanks a lot - I have searched the web, Apple's support site and the
documentation, and I can't find any answers.

Thanks in advance,

metro

(PS - the mp3s themselves are not distorted - they sound fine when played elsewhere)

You may be low on system memory, or your processor may be getting pegged.

Don't think that's what it is. System is top of the line as of
September-03, so memory or processor speeds/overload shouldn't be a
problem.
