Jaguar->User account applications unexpected quit, root account runs them fine?!

Anybody assist with this one?

Logging into Jaguar with my usual account and Safari, Entourage and a few
other apps bomb on launch. iTunes and iPhoto and a couple of others seem
unaffected. When I log out and log back in as say root user, I can launch
these applications fine. Run the directory permissions tool and fsck to
clear and directory or permission problem. The only thing I can surmise is
that something about the preferences for my usual account for these apps is
causing them to crash and burn....anybody seen this and found an effective
cure that didn't involve large amounts of copying of entourage databases and
safari bookmarks (where are they stored?) to a new account?

TIA folks :-)

Stuart

SOLVED - browsing around some other topics led me to looking at the console
window whilst launching and watching the crash burn - the log showed some
complaint about being unable to parse com.apple.internetconfig.plist due to
it not being UTF8 - guess just must have been some strange
corruption.....trashed the file and the apps are happy again :-))
